KOMSA has been working on to reflect Korean government's positions on the enactment and amendments to various IMO conventions, by participating in the IMO meetings.
Applying them, which were adopted and became effective, to domestic law and regulations, KOMSA is striving to ensure that there would be no setbacks in implementing the international conventions.
KOMSA manages and analyzes local application and implementation of the international conventions, after having been entrusted with implementation assessment on maritime conventions by the Korean Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF) in 2018, as a leading organization to cope with IMO Member State Audit Scheme (IMSAS).
* IMSAS: As a mandatory process from 2016, the IMO Member State Audit Scheme (IMSAS) is intended to facilitate and assist the systematic implementation of applicable IMO instruments regarding maritime safety and protection of the marine environment by Member States with a comprehensive and objective assessment process.
On the basis of the ‘Act on Enhancement of Capabilities to Respond in the International Maritime Sector’, announced by MOF, KOMSA caries out the works as follows:
Support local adoption of int’l conventions; Develop implementation measures & policies
Manage the revised records of IMO Conventions & legislation status
Conduct information provision on IMO & support its updates
Support assessment on implementation of the IMO III Code
In addition, through its works on implementation and management of international conventions, KOMSA makes an effort to provide information to relevant industries and the public, such as the revisions, adoption to domestic regulations, and the requirements on implementation.
