Korea Maritime Transportation
Safety Authority CEOKIM, Kyong-Suk

KOMSA leads the voyage
to making safer seas
with full ahead
Thank you for visiting the official website of the Korean Maritime Transportation Safety Authority(KOMSA).
I am KIM, Kyong-Suk, the 2nd CEO of KOMSA.

KOMSA is the only maritime transportation safety institution in Korea.
Founded on the public desire for maritime safety,
KOMSA was launched on July 1, 2019 with the goals of preventing maritime accidents and
running and managing a maritime transportation system.

KOMSA is dedicated to furthering existing tasks such as vessel inspections, ensuring safety management for passenger ships and developing safety technology, and to ensuring safe maritime routes through accident prevention activities, construction of a maritime transport safety system, and helping to create a culture of maritime safety.

KOMSA has made the following four promises as it seeks to build a complete and robust maritime transportation safety system with zero blind spots.

  • First
KOMSA will ensure safe marine transport through effective use of a maritime accident prevention center and proactive use of 4IR (Fourth Industrial Revolution) technology.
  • Second
KOMSA will develop eco-friendly shipbuilding technology and reduce air pollution from ships towards realizing a cleaner sea.
  • Third
KOMSA will establish an integrated information infrastructure on marine transportation safety and enhance Korea’s coastal ship safety management system as part of its efforts to create a smart sea.
  • Fourth
KOMSA will focus on people to build up a culture of maritime safety through education and broadcasting.

KOMSA works with fishermen sweating it out at sea, ensures the safety of passenger ships, and is a steadfast partner for ocean-going vessels hard at work for the Korean economy.

March with us towards the bright future of Korea as a maritime power and greater safety and enjoyment in maritime transportation.

Thank you.
