What is the GHG Emission Reduction Projects?

A project to reduce, absorb or eliminate emission from discharge facilities or activities outside the boundaries of entities designated for Emission Trading Scheme allocation to levels that comply with international standards.

What is the Greenhouse Gases Emission Trading Offset?

A system where businesses sell KOC(Korean Offset Credit) issued through GHG reduction projects to entities designated for Emission Trading Scheme, and the entities transition the KOC purchased into KCU(Korean Credit Units) so they can be offset or traded within the Emission Trading Scheme.

KOMSA's role

Key tasks
  • (Develop methodology) There is a need to develop effective methodology, and consigned institutions(KOMSA) pursues methodology development·authority registration & consults methodology development of businesses to activate GHG reduction projects
  • (Assess GHG reduction projects rationale) Confirm adequacy of applied methodology, adequacy of emission calculation method, and redundant registration with other GHG reduction projects, etc.

  • (Certify emission reduction) Confirm calculation of reduction according to methodology
