An AI-Designed Green HDPE Fishing Vessel Received an Enthusiastic Response at the First Onboard Experience Event for Fishermen - On August 25 to 26, KOMSA successively held a “briefing session for an AI-based fishing vessel design platform” and an onboard experience event of the “KAIVE 3” for fishermen in Busan and Gyeongsang Province. - Participants showed an enthusiastic response to the vessel, regarding “safety and comfort”. Hopes are high that green fishing vessels to which AI technology is applied will be widely used. For the first time in Korea, fishing vessel technology that was designed by Artificial Intelligence (AI) and materialized with an eco-friendly novel material was demonstrated before fishermen and others. The Korea Maritime Transportation Safety Authority (KOMSA, President Jun-Seok Kim) announced that on August 25, the institution held a “briefing session for an AI-based fishing vessel design platform for users” in Yeongdo-gu, Busan and on the 26th, an onboard experience event of the “KAIVE 3”, which is Korea’s first High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) fishing vessel in Cheonseong Port, Gangseo-gu, Busan*. * These events were held as part of KOMSA’s commissioned research project on the “development and demonstration of an AI-based fishing vessel design data platform (2022 – 2026)”, and the institution supervised this national R&D project, where 13 domestic institutions from industry, academia, and research participated. With almost 30 participants from the fishing industry, shipbuilding businesses, and vessel design companies of Busan and Gyeongsang Province, at the briefing session, KOMSA introduced an AI-based fishing vessel design platform*, which had been on test operation since July, last year. This platform can automatically suggest up to 648 types of tailored vessel design plans based on 157 module data points such as hull forms (108 points), propulsion systems (12 points), superstructure (24 points), and fishing systems (12 points). * KOMSA, with the commissioned research project on the “development and demonstration of an AI-based fishing vessel design data platform (2022 – 2026)”, is developing various standardized fishing vessel models and a distribution platform (building a designated website) along with an AI-based fishing vessel design platform. The participants experienced customized fishing vessel design plans depending on their own preferred conditions, and the platform’s functions such as the function to predict the performance of each AI-based design model including speed, stability, and structure stability, and the 3D visualization function. On the 26th, there was an onboard experience event of the “KAIVE 3” for fishermen, which is Korea’s first HDPE fishing vessel (2.93 GRT). The “KAIVE 3” is a prototype produced as a result of the commissioned research project on AI-based fishing vessel design platform development. In the recent sea trial, the “KAIVE 3” proved its operation capabilities as it recorded the maximum speed of 32 knots. As HDPE materials are resistant to corrosions, strong, and 100 percent recyclable, it has strength in reducing costs regarding maintenance and enhancing durability compared to the existing fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) material. One of the fishermen, who participated in the onboard experience event, said that as the vessel was light but stable and strong, it was likely to receive a positive response from fishermen on the ground. An employee of KOMSA said that although many participants highly praised the vessel’s comfort and stability, we had multiple challenges to address for its commercialization, as HDPE was a new material, there were a series of inquiries about the government’s support. Going forward, following Jeollanam-do, KOMSA plans to hold a “user briefing session for an AI-based fishing vessel design platform“ and an onboard experience event of the “KAIVE 3” consecutively by next year across the nation. From September, KOMSA started receiving registrations for briefing sessions and onboard experience events via the institution’s official website. Based on feedback on the ground, the institution plans to advance the platform’s functions and accelerate the spread of the design and construction systems of tailored fishing vessels. Jun-Seok Kim, President of KOMSA said, “KOMSA will contribute to the enhancement of fishing vessel safety and innovation of the fishing vessel industry through the spread of AI-based fishing vessel design and green ship technology.” The onboard experience event of the “KAIVE 3” – Korea’s first HDPE fishing vessel – was held in Cheonseong Port, Gangseo-gu, Busan on August 26. The “briefing session for an AI-based fishing vessel design platform” for participants from the fishing industry, shipbuilding businesses, and vessel design companies, which was held Yeongdo-gu, Busan on the 25th.

KOMSA Runs a Generative AI-Based Internal Podcast to Convey Management Messages and Policy Directions All at Once - Followed by providing education to enhance the AI capabilities of employees, KOMSA delivers information on management and policies with an AI-generated podcast in an easy and immersive way. - The combination of generative AI technology and storytelling techniques enables KOMSA employees to listen to messages from management even on the move. - For the innovation of its corporate culture based on digital transformation, KOMSA first introduced a KOMSA-type AI communication model. On August 26, the Korea Maritime Transportation Safety Authority (KOMSA, President Jun-Seok Kim) announced that the institution would begin to operate a generative AI-based podcast, “Wave of Innovation”, in earnest to strengthen communication among executives and staff members. This move aims to enhance accessibility and the level of immersion by delivering messages on management policies and policy directions through voice not documents. KOMSA has been distributing its podcast, “Wave of Innovation”, since July through the institution’s internal bulletin board in line with the government’s policy directions of expanding the use of AI in the public sector. Its podcast episodes are produced by converting written scripts into voice files containing emotions and intonation after automatically summarizing documents with the help of Google “NotebookLM” and processing them into conversation scripts. Before the introduction of the podcast, KOMSA provided “Generative AI Application Capability Building Education” to its employees from May to July and helped reinforce their task skills such as data analysis and task automation, laying the foundation for establishing an AI-based communication channel. Based on these developments, this year KOMSA plans to produce podcast episodes focused on three areas including management policies (mission, vision, and core values, and integrity culture); policy directions (ESG, future strategies of AI, and public-oriented services); and internal and external performance evaluation systems (understanding of the systems and best practices). In addition, going forward, the institution is expected to continuously discover new topics and improve production methods by statistically analyzing changes before and after the introduction of the podcast. A recent joint international study showed that audio-based learning tools such as podcasts helped increase the level of understanding of information by about 20%. KOMSA intends to run the podcast to improve its previous internal communication method centered around paper documents, convey complicated management messages with concision, and increase the level of understanding of policies among its employees, hence eventually leading to innovation in the institution’s corporate culture. Jun-Seok Kim, President of KOMSA stated, “Our podcast, Wave of Innovation, is a case of communication innovation which was born thanks to the digital transformation capabilities of KOMSA colleagues.” “Wave of Innovation will significantly help expand a consensus and innovate our corporate culture as this allows KOMSA colleagues to listen to management messages regardless of time and place,” he added. The poster for KOMSA’s podcast, “Wave of Innovation” (AI-generated image) KOMSA, since July, has been distributing its podcast, “Wave of Innovation”, through the institution’s internal bulletin board. In July, KOMSA employees attended “Generative AI Application Capability Development Education”, which was held at the institution’s headquarters located in Areum-dong, Sejong City.

The Use of AI Allows Pre-Identification of High-Risk Vessels as Well as Passenger Ship Operation Prediction: The Launch of the AX Innovation Promotion Task Force - KOMSA aims to innovate public services with the introduction of AI in the entire management strategy, maritime transportation, operation management, and ship inspection areas. - While the President as the head and experts within and outside the institution participate in the Task Force to secure driving force, KOMSA plans to establish a medium and long-term road map within this year. On August 14, the Korea Maritime Transportation Safety Authority (KOMSA, President Jun-Seok Kim) launched the “AX* Innovation Promotion Task Force (hereinafter referred as the Task Force)” to use Artificial Intelligence (AI) more widely in maritime transportation safety administration and technology research overall. * Artificial Intelligence Transformation (AX): AX means innovating organizations, tasks and services in general by using AI technology. KOMSA plans to be in line with the government’s policy of innovating public services with the introduction of AI, and put more effort into carrying out AI transformation in the maritime transportation safety sector for a long period of time based on its achievements in the use of AI*. * KOMSA’s AI introduction projects: Maritime Transportation Safety Information System service (MTIS, since 2022); a conversational chatbot, “Haesuhobot” service (since 2023); and commissioned research on the development and demonstration of an AI-based fishing vessel design data platform (since 22) The Task Force will promote the innovation of tasks and the advancement of public services with the utilization of AI in four areas, including management strategy, maritime transportation, ship inspection, and coastal ferry operation management. In particular, the Task Force will operate on an ongoing basis to establish and manage the institution’s medium and long-term roadmap for AI Transformation (AX), and review and enhance achievements by sector. While Heads of Divisions, employees in charge of the tasks, and experts outside the institution participate in the group, KOMSA President Jun-Seok Kim serves as the head of the Task Force to reinforce the driving force for AI transformation across the entire institution. The Task Force’s efforts in promoting AI transformation are expected to be the most noticeable first in “maritime transportation” and “coastal ferry operation management.” KOMSA will further advance Korea’s first AI-based maritime traffic volume prediction service, which is currently available in the Maritime Transportation Safety Information System (MTIS). The institution will develop AI technology that notifies the level of maritime traffic congestion and the probability of maritime accidents in advance by using Big Data in addition to 900 million public data records, which are already in use. With AI technology, it also plans to realize a model to predict the likelihood of cancellation and delay of coastal ferries by using weather information and operation history by sea route across the country. AI innovation in the “ship inspection” sector will be carried out in a way to improve administration services for information have-nots such as elderly fishers and ship owners, and strengthen ship safety. First, into the conversational AI chatbot, “Haesuhobot”, which has been seeing a gradual increase in the number of users, the function to provide safety information tailored to the needs of ship owners is scheduled to be introduced. KOMSA also plans to promote the development of prediction models using AI technology to automatically detect the defects of hulls; identify vessels at high risk of accidents in advance through the analysis of inspection record data; and automatically calculate the level of ship safety. In addition, as part of its effort for AI-led management innovation, KOMSA will establish an AI management diagnosis system to make a diagnosis on management achievements and risks in a preemptive manner and automate budget execution and performance evaluation by using Big Data analysis and AI prediction models. Starting from this month, the Task Force schedules a regular meeting by subcommittee more than once every week to find specific implementation tasks and establish a medium and long-term roadmap for AI Transformation (AX) by October. Jun-Seok Kim, President of KOMSA said, “AI has become more of the main driver to innovate administrative and technological capabilities than just a tool.” “KOMSA will do our utmost, based on publicness and credibility, to realize AI technology swiftly and appropriately in maritime transportation safety on the ground,” he added. KOMSA Provides Small and Medium-Sized Marine Equipment Companies with Support for Opening New Foreign Markets to Reach USD 5.4 Million in Exports Within this Year - Until July KOMSA received twelve requests for consultations on exports, and the institution is currently helping nine businesses with their foreign market entry by offering tailored consultations. - The institution built a full-cycle export support system customized to the needs of industry, ranging from technical support to market exploration to field demonstration. The Korea Maritime Transportation Safety Authority (KOMSA, President Jun-Seok Kim) is actively offering tailored support for the export of Korean small and medium-sized marine equipment companies to help them with foreign market entry. KOMSA, in accordance with the new administration’s policy direction of boosting the export of small and medium-sized companies, established “KOMSA Plan for the Export of Private Businesses in the Maritime Sector” last month, accelerating its effort in offering support covering every step of export to accomplish exports of USD 5.4 million (twice the figure of last year) until the end of this year. Since last year, KOMSA has been offering assistance for the export of small and medium-sized marine equipment companies through the “Corporate Growth Response Center” operated by the institution. Last year alone, a total of four SMEs received support free of charge in foreign certification and technology standard analysis, and global marketing from KOMSA, exporting products worth of almost USD 2.7 million including three ships and nine power generators (about USD 1.01 million); life vests (about USD 144 thousand); and twenty outboard engines (about USD 1.52 million). This year, demand for export consultations is increasing more rapidly than last year. From January to July this year, the “Corporate Growth Response Center” received 12 requests for consultations, which have tripled compared to last year. In particular, in June, KOMSA conducted the technology reviews and safety conformity inspections of 20 ship cranes manufactured by “Hiab Korea Ltd” located in Cheongju-si, Chungcheongbuk-do, helping the company export products worth almost USD 860 thousand. In addition, the institution is currently carrying out tailored technology reviews, field demonstrations and export-related consultations for nine businesses in total including VINSSEN Co., Ltd. (hydrogen fuel cells for small-sized vessels); Hansung Gen Tech (power generators); D-I Industrial Co., Ltd. (transmissions, steering systems and others); and Hyundai Marine (engines). Marketing support targeting foreign markets is now paying off, too. At the 17th Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA 25) held in Langkawi, Malaysia, in May, KOMSA set up a promotional booth together with Korean companies and assisted with reaching the deal of exporting four eco-friendly High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) ships (rescue boats). KOMSA plans to reinforce a full-cycle management system from the second half of this year to provide support in a systemic manner, ranging from certificate renewal to new market connection after export, instead of being satisfied with a short-term achievement in exports. The institution aims to lay the foundation for the sustainable growth of SMEs by introducing a “full-cycle export management sheet”, where the entire processes of export by company are recorded and managed and linking products demanding demonstrations to the “K-Testbed*.” * The K-Testbed: It is an integrated national platform supervised by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, to assist domestic SEMs and venture companies in their research & development, field demonstration and market expansion by opening public and private infrastructure. Jun-Seok Kim, President of KOMSA noted, “Although the marine equipment industry is the main pillar of the competitiveness of the domestic marine industry, there are high barriers to overseas market entry so that small and medium-sized companies find it difficult to export their products on their own.” “KOMSA will continuously expand our all-around support centered around the ground to help domestic companies with competitive technological capabilities to secure actual competitiveness in the global market,” he added. In the meantime, businesses that want to participate in KOMSA’s “Overseas Export Support Program for Small and Medium-Sized Companies” can make an application thorough the institution’s local branch offices or the “Corporate Growth Response Center*” on its official website. * The link to the online application: https://www.komsa.or.kr/bbs/BBSMSTR_000000001101/list.do In June, an employee of KOMSA examines the specifications of different cranes with an employee of Hiab Korea Ltd, a crane manufacturer located in Cheongju-si, Chungcheongbuk-do An eco-friendly HDPE rescue boat displayed in the joint promotional booth of KOMSA and private businesses at the “17th Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA 25)” held in Langkawi, Malaysia, in May An employee of KOMSA visits a private company and provides technological consultations for the overseas market entry of life vests

MTIS Enables the Spread of Self-Regulated Ship Safety Management Ranging from the Utilization of Operation Information to Swift Accident Responses - In the Contest for the Best Use Case of My Ship (shipping company) Management Service of MTIS, eight of the best cases were selected. - Ship owners, shipping companies, and even public organizations improved efficiency and reliability by combining MTIS functions. On July 29, the Korea Maritime Transportation Safety Authority (KOMSA, President Jun-Seok Kim) announced that in the ”2025 Contest for the Best Use Case of the Maritime Transportation Safety Information System (MTIS)” for the users of a “My Ship (shipping company) Management Service”, eight of the best cases were chosen. “My Ship (shipping company) Management” service provides information conveniently not only on the specifications of ships but also on safety management* – including ship safety ratings – and past operational records**. Since its introduction in November 2023, the service has taken root as a self-regulated ship safety management tool among workers on the ground such as fishermen and shipping companies. * Ship safety ratings, the overall status of safety, and the status of maritime accidents (the number of accidents and casualties over the past five years) ** Total operation time and distance over the past month, and operation history by period So far, almost 13,000 seafarers have subscribed to the service, and about 20,000 ships or 28.7% of those under the management of KOMSA (including fishing vessels) are currently using it. This contest was held to discover various kinds of cases where ship owners, shipping companies, the government, and public organizations use MTIS on the ground, in particular, regarding the “My Ship (shipping company) Management Service” in MTIS, which KOMSA was entrusted to operate by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries. KOMSA selected eight outstanding cases – one first prize, two second prizes, and five third prizes – after judging each case in terms of topicality, quality, message delivery, and usability. The winners were highly regarded in that they combined different functions of MTIS with ship safety and operation management on the ground. Award ceremonies took place in the branch offices of KOMSA, depending on the winners’ location. The first prize went to Sina Maritime Co. located in Yeosu-si, Jeollanam-do. The company utilized the “My Ship (shipping company) Management Service” to systematize its passenger ship operation data that had not been computerized, and based on that data they developed ferry maintenance and budget plans. The ferry operator was also greatly recognized as it built a system using a “real-time ship location check” function to respond to accidents immediately from shore and used the same material for employee training within the company. One employee of Sina Maritime Co. said, “We were able to quickly deal with a floating object accident by checking the location of the ship in real time through MTIS when the accident happened last year.” The second prizes went to Busan Harbor Pilot’s Association and the Mokpo Office of the Jeonnam Bureau of Korea Communications Agency (KCA) respectively. Busan Harbor Pilot’s Association improved the productivity of administration through MTIS by managing ship information in an integrated way, including ship inspection schedules, operation information, and location confirmation that had been previously managed manually. KCA was highly regarded in that the institution enhanced the efficiency of tasks using MTIS. It lowered the rate of failure of radio station inspections as they compared the permit conditions of radio stations with content in the ship’s entire life-cycle records, and if there were inconsistencies, they conducted inspections after informing changes in the permit conditions. The third prizes were awarded to cases where disputes were resolved using data on the wake of ships; inspection schedule notification and electronic certificate issuance functions were used; and the Dadohaehaesang National Park Office of the Korea National Park Service (KNPS) and the Korea Marine Environment Management Corporation (KOEM) increased the efficiency and credibility of their tasks such as ship safety management and the verification of inspection information. Jun-Seok Kim, President of KOMSA said, “This contest helped confirm the fact that MTIS is not just a simple information inquiry system but it is being used as a preemptive and self-regulated safety management tool on the ground.” “Going forward, KOMSA will expand a safety management system by continuously enhancing the functions of MTIS based on Big data and others,” he added. In the meantime, KOMSA plans to hold the “Second Public Contest for the Best Use Case” for all the users of MTIS from August 4 to September 30. Through “Passenger Transportation Information System (PATIS)” and “Real-Time Maritime Transportation Information”, the institution will collect cases of using MTIS for the improvement of maritime safety and transportation convenience in order to set up a maritime safety culture together with the public. Shipping Companies Began Self-Regulated Safety Management: KOMSA Does its Best to Promote the Early Establishment of the Public Disclosure System of Safety Investment - For the second pilot project, 20 passenger and freight transport businesses were chosen, which is more than twice the figure of the previous year. - From 2026, mandatory public disclosure will be applied to almost 80 shipping companies, and KOMSA reinforces its support for the early establishment of the system. On July 25, the Korea Maritime Transportation Safety Authority (KOMSA, President Jun-Seok Kim) announced that the institution would carry out the second pilot project in earnest for the on-site establishment of the “Public Disclosure System of Safety Investment” in Maritime Businesses, which was scheduled to be implemented on July 26. Public Disclosure of Safety Investment is a system that makes shipping businesses publicly disclose the details of investments in ship safety management and others pursuant to Article 16 of the “Framework Act on Maritime Safety.” KOMSA is promoting pilot projects that were entrusted to the institution since it was designated as a specialized institution to run the system by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries. Twenty shipping companies in total, including eight passenger transport and twelve freight transport businesses, participated in the second project this time. The number of participating companies more than doubled compared to that of the first pilot project, which attracted eight shipping businesses last year. From 2026, when the system will be fully implemented, about 80 shipping companies are expected to be subject to mandatory public disclosure. In the meantime, KOMSA, since May, has been providing the participating companies of the pilot project with information on how to fill in each main list of disclosure such as the management of ship safety, human resources, and safety quality. In addition, the institution plans to bolster its support for the system’s early establishment in multiple ways by issuing guidelines for Public Disclosure of Safety Investment within this year based on feedback on the ground and using both online and offline PR channels. KOMSA will establish an electronic disclosure system to gradually build a systemic foundation that can enable shipping companies to register and disclose data online in the future. Jun-Seok Kim, President of KOMSA noted, “The Public Disclosure System of Safety Investment will be an opportunity to share the level of safety management of shipping companies with people and expand a safety culture across the industry, going beyond simple information disclosure.” “KOMSA will do our best for the successful establishment of the system through its operation centered around the needs of users so that the shipping sector and people can benefit from it,” he added. KOMSA Reinforces Publicness in Security Audit for Port Facilities, Gradually Expanding the Service Across the Country by 2027 - KOMSA, together with KR, started to conduct a security audit for port facilities on July 4. - KOMSA nurtures professional auditors and establishes a digital system, contributing to improving national security and public trust. On July 7, the Korea Maritime Transportation Safety Authority (KOMSA, President Jun-Seok Kim) announced that on July 4, the institution, with the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, signed an agreement on vicarious performance to fulfill the task of conducting a security audit for port facilities operated by private companies and that it began in earnest security audits for the facilities across the country. KOMSA and the government jointly promoted these measures to strengthen the publicness and expertise of the audit system for ports and improve the effectiveness of the level of security. So far, the Korean Register (KR) has conducted security audits for port facilities. From now on, KOMSA will jointly carry out audits with KR to enhance the publicness of the audits. Security audit for port facilities is a system, under which the government by itself audits the security condition** of port facilities used by international ships in accordance with the “International Ship and Port Facility Security Act*” and it is operated based on relevant laws in order to respond to terrorist threats at sea and protect public safety. * IMO, in the aftermath of the September 11 Terrorist Attacks in the US in 2001, took the International Ship and Port Facility (ISPS) Code into effect from July 1, 2004. The Republic of Korea also enacted and enforced the same legislation to implement this. ** Preventing the destruction of ships and port facilities, the act of bringing in and concealing explosives and weapons, and the act and related situations that pose a threat to security when seafarers and other interested parties board and disembark a ship, and cargo is loaded and discharged. In June, KOMSA newly established a designated team, “Security Audit Team” for this task and secured 18 professional security auditors who were legally qualified. These auditors completed security audit theory education and field training courses based on relevant laws and regulations. The institution also established a “security audit system for port facilities” to lay the digital foundation for security audits. This system consists of 31 function screens, with which KOMSA plans to improve the expertise and effectiveness of audit administration procedures by integrating a dashboard – which can help manage the current state of audits of all ports in the country in real time – with procedures for applying an audit, planning, and designating auditors. KOMSA, starting with security audits for port facilities in Daesan, Gunsan, Pyeongtaek, and the East Sea this year, will expand the task to almost 120 facilities within the jurisdiction of nine Regional Office of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries in Yeosu, Pohang, Masan, Mokpo, Incheon and others next year. The institution will begin all-out security audits for port facilities nationwide in 2027. In addition, until April 2027, when KOMSA and KR jointly carry out security audits, the institution will provide information in advance and more support in terms of administration so that the owners of port facilities subject to audit will not experience any inconvenience. Those who have any inquiries can contact the Security Audit Team of KOMSA at +82-44-330-2373, 2388. Jun-Seok Kim, President of KOMSA noted, “As one entity of the nation’s security system, KOMSA will do our utmost based on publicness and expertise to take port security in the country to the next level.” “We will make a significant contribution to enhancing national security and public trust by creating a port environment which ensures public safety through objective and fair security audits,” he added. Sea Routes for All in Your Hands Now: Real-Time Passenger Ship Information Will Soon Be Available in the Kakao Map App - KOMSA signed an MOU with Kakao Corporation, ushering in an age of “tailored” ultraprecision in maritime transportation. - KOMSA expects it can contribute to promoting digital society by providing sea route safety information, including information on real-time passenger ship operation and Nodu-gil. On July 6, the Korea Maritime Transportation Safety Authority (KOMSA, President Jun-Seok Kim) announced that on July 4, the institution concluded a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Kakao Corporation (CEO, Shin-a Chung) to expand its digital-based maritime traffic safety services for the public at its headquarters located in Sejong City. With the MOU, KOMSA expects that island residents and tourists can more readily use real-time passenger ship operation information as its maritime traffic information is linked to the Kakao Map application. According to the latest statistics, the number of monthly users for Kakao Map services is about 30 million. Through this agreement, KOMSA plans to provide not only the core data of the Passenger Transformation Information Service (PATIS) in the Maritime Transportation Safety Information System (MTIS), such as the nationwide real-time operation status of domestic ferries, but also tomorrow’s operation forecast and nationwide domestic ferry safety information, to Kakao Corporation. The tech company will make its Kakao Map services more sophisticated by using the data provided by KOMSA. In particular, it is expected that these map services can help secure safety by giving psychological comfort to residents on islands, including elderly people, and solo travelers, as this will allow the users of domestic ferries to share their travel route at sea with family or friends in real time. In addition, these services will enhance user convenience of domestic ferries by providing not only customized notification services – operation control of coastal ferries caused by bad weather and tomorrow’s operation forecast – but also information on convenient facilities for the transportation vulnerable in domestic ferries and docks. The two institutions will also attempt to enhance map services to promote regional maritime tourism. The Kakao Map app will provide information on the location and available time of Nodu-gil*, which is exposed for a brief period of time during low tide. This aims to ensure safe travel for Nodu-gil visitors and contribute to vitalizing regional special maritime tourism. One of the representative examples is Hwado Nodu-gil that connects Jeungdo and Hwado. Nodu-gil is increasingly gaining popularity as a special tour experience course, where tourists can see marine life while walking. *Nodu-gil is a trail that is exposed for a brief period of time at the lowest sea level when seawater subsides due to low tide. It is important to obtain information on its available time since there is a possibility of accidents depending on tidal currents and tide times. Furthermore, they will provide Virtual Reality (VR) content, which offers virtual experience of boarding coastal ferries. This content, currently provided by KOMSA at its “How about a passenger ship” website, https://www.komsapass.com, is made to enable the user to learn safety rules on ships, the way to wear life vests, and emergency escape routes while exploring the ferry in a first-person view. In addition, the two institutions also plan to promote other contribution activities for digital society focused on ESG, such as joint campaigns. Jun-Seok Kim, President of KOMSA noted, “This will be an opportunity for us to prepare digital-based maritime traffic safety services that people can use in their daily lives by linking public data to private platforms.” “Going forward, KOMSA will expand maritime traffic safety services centered around people’s needs in their daily lives so that everyone can use sea routes safely and regions can grow together through promoting island tourism and others,” he added. In the meantime, KOMSA is currently offering the Passenger Transformation Information Service (PATIS) via the “Maritime Transportation Safety Information System (MTIS)” official website and the mobile app*, which can be used without a sign-up. This information is open to the public free of charge as National Core Data through the public data portal. *The link to download the mobile app - Android Playstore: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=kr.or.komsa.mtis - Apple App Store (iOS): https://apps.apple.com/kr/app/해양교통안전정보/id6462842483 At 2 p.m. on July 4, Jun-Seok Kim, President of KOMSA (third from the left) and Chang-Min Lee, Leader of Kakao’s Map Transportation Trip (third from the right) sign an MOU for expanding digital-based maritime traffic safety services for the public at KOMSA’s headquarters (a conference room on the 8th floor) located in Sejong City Eocheongdo Car Ferry (298 tonnes, capacity: 194 passengers) traveling between the Port of Gunsan and Eocheongdo (subsidized ferry route) in operation KOMSA will provide real-time operation and safety information on coastal ferries by linking this information to the Kakao Map app

KOMSA Spearheads the Efforts to Practice Carbon Neutrality in the Shipping Industry: The Institution Held a Business Presentation About External Projects on GHG Reduction - The institution provided information on the external project system in the shipping, port, and fisheries sectors and the way to receive recognition of the reduction for greenhouse gas emissions The Korea Maritime Transportation Safety Authority (KOMSA, President Jun-Seok Kim) announced that the institution held the “2025 Business Presentation on External Projects in the Maritime and Fisheries Sectors” at Busan Port International & Convention Center (BPEX) on July 1. The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF, Minister Do-Hyung Kang) hosted this event, and the Korea Maritime Transportation Safety Authority and the Korea Marine Environment Management Corporation (KOEM, CEO Yong-Seok Kang) co-organized it. This event was prepared to encourage relevant industries to voluntarily participate in the external project system on greenhouse gas reduction in the shipping, port, and fisheries sectors. Under this system, businesses that do not have any obligation to cut greenhouse gas emissions can receive emission permits and trade them when they voluntarily reduce emissions in accordance with the methods authorized by the government as the reduction result is recognized as emission permits. Therefore, this system enables businesses to contribute to achieving Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) and also to create profits at the same time. One of the representative examples of external projects in the shipping sector is the project where “Alternated Maritime Power (AMP)” replaced oil generators in power generation on ships while mooring. As this project can be relatively easily applied to all the ships that use AMP regardless of ship type, it was approved as a reduction project for various kinds of ships including cargo ships, training ships, and guard ships. In this event, KOMSA introduced the Greenhouse Gas Emissions Trading System and Credit Offset System; the current status and methodology of reduction projects by sector including shipping, port, and fisheries. In particular, the institution shared the cases of reduction projects that had been found and approved so that participants could figure out procedures to prepare projects. In addition, the institution also presented the expanded revision of the methodology of greenhouse gas reduction which can be used for electric propulsion ships. KOMSA planned to encourage the participation of multiple businesses by expanding the scope of application to all the ships which would replace the existing ships. This methodology was confined to domestic ferries. KOMSA, along with the business presentation, also offers assistance for small and medium-sized ship companies which want to participate in external projects through “support projects of providing consultations on external projects in the shipping sector.” Following the first announcement for applications in the first half of this year, in the second half, the institution will receive applications from more companies through the second announcement. Those chosen will obtain support throughout the entire procedures needed for the approval of external projects encompassing calculating the expected reductions of greenhouse gases; preparing project plans; and responding to the evaluation of feasibility. Due to KOMSA’s efforts to promote external projects, the result of performance in terms of the shipping sector’s participation in external projects increases every year. Starting from the approval of the first greenhouse gas reduction project, these projects are continuously found, and last year, KOMSA made a significant achievement where 12 reduction projects were applied and approved in total. Detailed information on the business presentation is available on the noticeboard of KOMSA’s official website, www.komsa.or.kr. Participants pre-registered online using a QR code or applied in person on the date of the event at the venue. Jun-Seok Kim, President of KOMSA noted “KOMSA is providing full support for the shipping industry in its efforts of practicing carbon neutrality through holding a business presentation on external projects, offering consultations and other activities.” “We will not only secure emission permits but also lay the foundation for the sustainable growth of the shipping industry together with the government by finding realistic and effective greenhouse gas reduction projects,” he added. KOMSA Provides Technical Support Tailored to the Needs of Small and Medium-Sized Vessel Equipment Companies to Help Them Expand Export Markets - Ship cranes found their way toward the Japanese and New Zealand markets thanks to KOMSA’s backing covering inspection, translation, and consultation. - KOMSA plans to offer assistance to small and medium-sized companies making an entry into Europe, Africa, and Southeast Asia by accepting applications through the Corporate Growth Response Center. The Korea Maritime Transportation Safety Authority (KOMSA, President Jun-Seok Kim) is accelerating its efforts in providing “customized technical support” to secure the global competitiveness of domestic small and medium-sized vessel equipment companies. Based on its inspection expertise and technology research capabilities, KOMSA helps lower barriers to exports and makes a significant contribution to exploring new overseas markets with free-of-charge technical support centered around the needs on the ground. The institution recently conducted safety conformity inspections of 20 ship cranes and reviewed their technologies in order to help “Hiab Korea Ltd”, a crane manufacturer located in Cheongju-si, Chungcheongbuk-do, with the company’s exports to Japan and New Zealand. The products that the company will export include various sizes of ship cranes ranging from 1.2-ton to 40-ton cranes, amounting to about USD 900,000 in total exports. While the crane manufacturer is making inroads into the vessel equipment sector on the basis of its existing land-based crane technologies, the stride it made in its exports this time is viewed as the foundation for making an entry into overseas markets and increasing sales. KOMSA offered comprehensive technical support encompassing consultations on technology contracts and translations of technology documents as well as safety performance verification, which was given for free to minimize the burden of small and medium-sized businesses. In addition, the institution continues to provide technical support for “Hansung Gen Tech”, a producer of maritime generators, located in Daegu also this year following last year. Over the past year, KOMSA contributed to reaching the deal of exporting maritime generators to Vietnam by helping with the review of the quality and performance of seven generators and the issuance of certificates written in English. The deal was worth USD 300,000 in total. This year, based on that achievement, it plans to offer tailored technical and management consultations to expand export to the Southeast Asian region including Indonesia. From late June, two maritime transmission producers will receive technical support for foreign export from KOMSA. These two companies made an application via the Corporate Growth Response Center at the institution’s official website. These businesses are promoting exports to overseas markets such as Europe, Africa, Southeast Asia, and South America. KOMSA will incrementally provide comprehensive support encompassing the analysis of the latest technology trends, technical consultations, and responses to the regulations of each foreign market. In particular, as technology standards for maritime transmissions differ from country to country, technology verification is necessary. Therefore, KOMSA’s pre-technology review and consultations are expected to play an important role in the foreign market entry of Korean small and medium-sized vessel equipment manufacturers. Businesses that want to participate in the institution’s “overseas export support program” for small and medium-sized companies, can make an application through KOMSA’s local branch offices and the “Corporate Growth Response Center*” at its official website. * The link to the online application: https://www.komsa.or.kr/bbs/BBSMSTR_000000001101/list.do Jun-Seok Kim, President of KOMSA noted “KOMSA will strengthen our efforts to provide technical support tailored to the needs of small and medium-sized vessel equipment manufacturers so that they can secure technological competitiveness in overseas markets in accordance with the new administration’s policy direction of helping small and medium-sized businesses expand their exports and export destinations.” “Going forward, we will take the lead in establishing the export ecosystem in the maritime industry through win-win cooperation with SMEs,” he added. <Caption> On June 10, at KOMSA’s Boryeong branch office, its employee conducts load testing of a maritime crane for export produced by “Hiab Korea Ltd”, a crane manufacturer, located in Cheongju-si, Chungcheongbuk-do <Caption> On June 10, a surveyor of KOMSA’s Boryeong branch office checks multiple specifications of maritime cranes with an employee of “Hiab Korea Ltd”, a crane manufacturer, located in Cheongju-si, Chungcheongbuk-do <Caption> On June 16, employees of KOMSA take a group photo with employees of “Hiab Korea Ltd”, a crane manufacturer, located in Cheongju-si, Chungcheongbuk-do after delivering the first safety certificate of maritime cranes for export
